Abstract

Objective To compare the sensitivity and specialties of AgNo3 staining and half mensurable crystal violet staining for detecting biofilm-producing strains of clinical klebsiella pneumoniae isolates. Methods Biofilm assay of 150 clinic k.pneumoniae isolates with the AgNO3 staining, half mensurabal crystal violet staining and 20 strains were chosen stochasticly for scaning electron microscope assaying. Results There were 38.7% and 45% strains can form biofilm by AgNo3 staining assay and half mensurabal crystal violet staining assay, respectively. The biofilm-producing rate is not significantly different between these two methods. The sensitivity of AgNo3 staining and half mensurabal crystal violet staining is 83% and 100% respectively,And the specialties of these two methods is 100% and 79% respectively. Conclusion AgNo3 staining and half mensurabal crystal violet staining both can be used to detect biofilm.
