Abstract
This paper traces development of study of Theme and patterns of thematic progression, and makes a survey of recent findings of narrative analysis. Through comparison and analysis, author gives evidence to show that identification of Theme and patterns of thematic progression within a narrative text also suggests another implicit pattern the problem-solution method.
