Abstract
Theme is an extremely important concept of textual metafunction in Systemic Functional Grammar. Theme-Rheme and thematic progression are effective devices in the development of a text. This paper explores the patterns of thematic progression and the relationship between the thematic progression and the different genre. The application of the thematic progression in teaching of texts is helpful in respective of revealing the main idea, the organization of discourse structure so as to develop the students’ reading abilities.
