On the Origins and Development of the Ideas about Westernization in Modern China

Abstract
The idea of westernization which emerged in the Self-strengthen movement had developed gradually since the late Qing period. The radical thoughts, such as the eagerness for Europenization and the idea of total westernization, appeared since t he period of the Reform Movement of 1898 to 1930s. The development of the thoughts connected with the transformation of modern Chinese society and politics. They had both progressive meanings and shortages.
