Abstract

Objective To observe the effects of Zhitangshu(ZTS) on the organic indexes and free radical metabolism in aged model mice. Methods The aged model of mice was made by D-galactose,then they were treated intragastrically with different doses of ZTS(Ⅰgroup:5g·kg-1·d-1,Ⅱgroup:10g·kg-1·d-1)for six weeks with other ten mice as control. At the end of the sixth week, the organic indexes, activity of superoxidase(SOD) and the content of malondialdehyde(MDA) in plasma of mice were mesaured. Results Compared with control group, excepting heart index, the organic indexes of liver, brain and kidney was decreased(P0.05),the activity of SOD was reduced and the content of MDA in plasma was increased in aged model group(P0.01).Compared with model group, the organic indexes of brain and kidney and the activity of SOD in plasma were increased and the content of MDA in plasma was significantly decreased in low and high doses of ZTS groups(P 0.05 or P 0.01).Conclusion ZTS has the effect of delaying senility.
