Effect evaluation of chocolate medium made of two kinds of animal blood using for isolate Haemophilus influenzae

Abstract
Objectives To compare the isolate rates of Haemophilus influenzae in sputum by chocolate plates made of sheep and horse blood,and the growth of Haemophilus influenzae on the two kinds of chocolate plates.Methods Sputums and Haemophilus influenzae ATCC 10211 were streaked on the two kinds of chocolate plates and incubated at 36 ℃in a candle jar for 24 hours.The isolate rates of Haemophilus influenzae by two kinds of chocolate plates and the growth of Haemophilus influenzae ATCC 10211 were compared.Results The isolate rates of Haemophilus influenzae in sputum by chocolate plates made of sheep blood,horse blood were 8%,34.5% respectively.Haemophilus influenzae ATCC 10211 grew very well on chocolate plates made of horse blood,its diameter of colony was 0.5~1.0 mm.But it did not grow well on the chocolate plates made of sheep blood,its colony was as small as a sand and hard to be seen with naked eye.Conclusions Chocolate plates made of horse blood can be used to isolate Haemophilus influenzae in sputum was better than the chocolate plate made of sheep blood.
