Abstract
There were numerals defects in the past research on the carrying capacity of resources, so this paper adopts the calculating methods of relative capacity of resources. The relative carrying capacity of land resources, relative carrying capacity of economic resources and synthetic carrying capacity of resources of Jiangsu province have been calculated from 1978 to 1995. Thus conclusions were drawn: ①the contribution of economic resources to the synthetic capacity in Jiangsu province are greater than that of land resources, so the economic resources are the principal resources to support population; ②the synthetic carrying capacity of Jiangsu province surpassed its real population and JiangSu province has gone into the state of relative affinence since 1982; ③the relative carrying capacity is varying in Jiangsu province; the southern region is in the state of relative abundance while the northern region is in the state of relative overloading; ④the incoordination between the relative carrying capacity of land resources and that of economic resources is a significant problem to be solved in the strategy of sustainable development in Jiangsu province.
