Abstract

Objective To study the therapeutic and side effects of citalopram combined with risperidone for patients with treatment-resistant depression. Methods A total of 69 patients with the treatment-resistant depression were randomly assigned to the two groups:risperidone with citalopram or citalopram or citalopram alone. They were evaluated with Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD),Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA),and Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale(TESS)before treatment and at the end of 1st,2nd,4th week after treatment. The study last for 4 weeks. Results There were significant difference on the scores of HAMD and HAMA between the uwo groups at the end of 2nd and 4th week after treatment. The effective rate had significant difference between two groups. There was no significant difference in side effects between two groups. Conclusion Citalopram combined with risperidone is an efficacious and safe strategy for treatment-resistant depression.
