On Japanecse Euphemism Culture

Abstract

Among the phenomena of Japanese culture, the phenomenon of euphemism is of particular significance. Euphemism is the apprehension, taboo and avoidance in speech and behavior. It not only regulates the speech and behavior of Japanese, but also influences the judgment and concept of the foreigners. Without the knowledge of euphemism, the study on Japan and Japanese culture is incomplete. Through the analysis of euphemism, this essay aims to probe into the source and development of it. Then we can understand the connotation of euphemism culture that is unique to Japan.
