Abstract
Objective To investigate the value of regional excision for benign tumor in superficial lobe of parotid gland. Methods Twenty-four patients with benign tumors in superficial lobe of parotid gland(≤3.0 cm) were treated with local regional excision, conserving the sub-superficial musculoaponeurotic system(subSMAS),retaining master duct and main normal parotid tissue. All of patients were followed up for 0.5-3 years to investigate the rate of complication and recurrence rate. Results There was slight facial deformity in 24 patients. The function of parotid glands was nearly normal. There was no recurrence during the followed-up,but there was transient facial nerve palsy in 2 cases(8.33%),and Frey's syndrome in 1 case(4.16%).Conclusion Regional parotidectomy can be an ideal operative method of benign tumor in superficial lobe of parotid gland.
