Abstract

Objective:To investigate the value of functional excision of benign tumor in superficial lobe of parotid gland.Methods:56 patients with benign tumors in superficial lobe of parotid gland(≤3.0cm)were treated with functional excision, retaining master duct and main normal parotid tissue. All patients were followed up for 0.5 to 5 years to investigate the rate of complication and recurrence rate, and compared with traditional technique. Results:There was slight deformity in 56 patients' face. The function of parotid glands was good. There was no salivary fistula, recurrence and Frey's syndrome during followe-up.But there was transient facial nerve palsy in 4 cases. There was no difference in the recurrence. There was difference in the dry mouth, transient facial nerve palsy, salivary fistula and Frey's syndrome between two groups(P0.05).Conclusion:Functional excision can be an ideal operative method of benign tumor in superficial lobe of parotid gland.
