Study on local regional excision in benigh tumor of parotid gland

Abstract

Objective To investigate the value of local reg ional excision in benign tumor in superficial lobe of parotid gland. Met hods One hundred and fifty-six patients with benign tumors in superfic ial lobe of parotid gland (the diameter of the tumors was less than 2.0 centimet er) were treated with local regional excision, retaining master duct and main no rmal parotid tissue. All of patients were followed up for 1 to 6 years to invest igate the rate of complication and recurrence rate. Results There was slight deformity in 156 patients’ face. The function of parotid gland s was nearly normal. The rate of temporary facial hemiprosoplegia was 41%(64/156 ). The rate of salivary fistula was 3.8%((5/156). The rate of Frey syndrome was 1.9%(3/156), and recurrence rate of tumor was 3.2%(5/156). Conclusion Local regional excision can protect the main function of parotid gland, l ower recurrence rate of tumor, reduce various kinds of complications, and can be prime operative method of benign tumor in superficial lobe of parotid gland.
