Abstract
Objective To explore the clinical significance of serum vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)level change in patients with colorectal cancer. Methods Serum VEGF of 60 patients with colorectal cancer(30 with metastasis and 30 without metastasis),and 30 patients with benign tumor were measured by sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).30 normal healthy volunteers served as control. Results Serum VEGF level of patients with colorectal cancer was significant higher than that of control group and benign tumor patient group(P=0.000, P=0.000); Serum VEGF level in colorectal cancer patients with metastasis was significant higher than that of colorectal carcinoma patients without metastasis(P=0.001).There was no significant difference in serum VEGF level between benign tumor patients and healthy ones. Conclusion Serum VEGF level may be used as a new tumor marker of colorectal cancer, for diagnosis and monitoring the progress of the disease.
