Abstract
Objective To explore the clinical significance of serum vascular endothelial growth factor-c (VEGF-C) level change in patient with colorectal cancer. Methods Serum VEGF-C of 45 patients with colorectal cancer was measured by sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). 40 normal healthy volunteers served as control. Results Serum VEGF-C level of patients with colorectal cancer was significant higher than that of control group, P=0.000; Serum VEGF- C level in colorectal cancer patients with lymph node metastasis and liver metastasis was significant higher than that in colorectal carcinoma patients without vascular invasion, lymph node metastasis and liver metastasis, P=0.005, P=0.002 respectively; Serum VEGF- C level in colorectal cancer patient of Dukes C and D stage was significant higher than that in colorectal cancer patient of Dukes A and B stage, P=0.001. Conclusion Serum VEGF- C may be used as a new tumor marker of col- orectal cancer for monitoring the progress of the disease and prognosis index.
