Abstract

Objective To study the effect of hypoglossal application of misoprostol on the cervix dilatation one hour prior to induced abortion in primigravida. Methods Four hundred women who were pregnant for the first time requested abortion were equally divided into two groups at random: misoprostol group and control group. The women in misoprostol group were given hypoglossally misoprostol 400 μg in single dose, and underwent suction drainage one hour later. The ones in the control group were given no medicine before the operation. Results Compared with the control group, the effective cervical dilatation rate of the misoprstol group was significantly higher( χ 2= 316.8,P0.001); the time required for the abortion was significantly shorter(t= 17.1 , P0.001); the blood lost was less(t= 17.6 , P0.001); and the incidence of abortion syndrome was lower(χ 2=14.6,P0.05). Conclusion Hypoglossal application of misoprostol one hour before abortion can significantly facilitate cervical dilatation in primigravida.
