Abstract
Objective: To study the roles of IFN-γ and IL-4 in the pathogenesis of condyloma acuminatum(CA). Methods: The means of RT-PCR was taken to detect the expression of IFN-γ mRNA and IL-4 mRNA of the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of 42 patients with CA. Results: The results showed that the expression of IFN-γ mRNA in CA with short course was significantly higher than that of normal controls and CA with long course ( P 0.05); The expression of IL-4 mRNA in CA with long course was significantly higher than that of normal controls and CA with short course ( P 0.05). Conclusion: These data indicate that the expression of Th2-associated cytokine (IL-4) is predominant in patients of CA with long course. Increased expression of Th2-associated cytokine and decreased expression of Th1-associated cytokine may play an important role in the pathogenesis of recurrent CA.
