Abstract

Objective:To study the role of Th1/Th2 cytokines in the pathogenesis of recurrent condyloma acuminata (CA), and find out a way to guide the topical treatment of CA. Methods:The mRNA levels of IL-2, IFN-gamma, IL-4, IL-5, IL-9, IL-10, IL-13, IL-15 in biopsies of genital CA were detected by multi-probe Rnase protection method. Results:The expression of mRNAs of IL-2, IFN-gamma, IL-4, IL-5, IL-9, IL-10, IL-13, IL-15 were all found in the normal controls, but the expression of IL-2 ,IFN-gamma, IL-15 in patients with CA have not been detected, the expression of mRNA of IL-4, IL-5, IL-9, IL-10, IL-13 were statistics significant between two groups. Conclusion:The mRNA expression patterns in twelve recurrent patients with genital CA were showed a predominant Th2 cytokine profile. There was a Th1/Th2 imbalance in biopsies of recurrent CA. The predominant Th2 cytokine mRNA expression profile may play an important role in the pathogenesis of recurrent CA.[
