Abstract

The reaction rate of Knoevenagel condensation can be dramatically enhanced by microwave irradiating the reaction mixture containing an aldehyde, active methylene compound and glycine, using an ionic liquid 1 butyl 3 methylimidazonium tetrafluoroborate (BF 4) as a solvent. Eight Knoevenagel condensation products were synthesized between 5min~10min in good yields.
