Relationship between serum ferritin and diabetic nephropathy

Objective Study of the relationship between serum ferritin and diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients.Methods 89 inpatients with type 2 diabetes were divided into group conrtol(n=58) and group abnormal kidney function(n=31).Their blood samples were collected for measuring the concentration of serum ferritin by chemiluminescence method and their urine samples for measuring the excretion of micoralbuminuria by radioimmunoassay method.The results were statistically analyzed.Results The concentration of serum ferritin and the excretion of microalbuminuria were 226.21±126.65 ng/ml and 10.09±7.17 mg/day in group control,and were 355.09±254.16 ng/ml and 160.64±166.85 mg/day in group abnormal kidney function.A significantly difference existed between the two groups(P0.05,P0.01).The multiple linear regression analysis suggests the concentration of serum ferritin was closely related with the excretion of microalbuminuria in type 2 diabetes(r=0.223),and there was significantly difference(P0.05).Conclusion The concentration of serum ferritin is one of the indicators in diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetes.
