Abstract

Objective To investigate the relevant factors of serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in metabolic syndrome (MS) patients. Methods BMI,fasting plasma glucose (FPG), triglyceride (TG),total cholesterol (TC),blood pressure (BP),fasting insulin (FIns) and ALT were detected in 402 medical outpatients and health examination people. Subjects with excessive drinking and chronic liver diseases were excluded.Insulin resistance(IR) was determined by HOMA-IR.The diagnosis of MS was according to the criteria of Chinese Diabetes Society in 2004. Results The concentration of serum ALT in MS group[(33.58±18.19)U/L,n=189]was significantly higher than in normal control group[(20.26±8.14)U/L,n=213](P0.01). Correlation analysis indicated that the serum ALT was positively associated with HOMA-IR and the components number of MS(BMI,BP,FPG and TG) (P0.05),which was independent on BMI.Furthermore, multiple linear stepwise regression analysis showed the HOMA-IR in MS was positively associated with ALT,BMI and TG (P=0.01~0.001). Conclusions The concentration of serum ALT is significantly higher in MS patients than in normal people and has a close relationship with the components number of MS (BMI,FPG,TG,BP) and HOMA-IR.
