Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and metabolic syndrome (MS) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods Two hundred and fifty seven patients with diagnosed type 2 diabetes were divided into MS group and non-MS group according to with or without MS.The ALT concentration were compared in two groups. The relationship between ALT and the components of MS was studied. Results In comparison with non-MS group,ALT,body mass index (BMI),systolic blood pressure (SBP),diastolic blood pressure (DBP),uric acid, total cholesterol (TC),serum triglyceride (TG),γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT) and low density lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C) were significantly increased in MS group (P0.05).The correlation analysis showed that ALT concentration was positively correlated with the levels of BMI and TG (P0.01),and negatively correlated with high density lipoprotein Cholesterol (HDL-C).Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed a positive correlation between ALT and BMI (P0.01),and a negative correlation between ALT and HDL-C (P0.01).Conclusion The ALT concentration is significantly increased in type 2 diabetic patients with metabolic syndrome. The ALT may be a feature of the type 2 diabetic patients with metabolic syndrome.
