and the concrete;integrating emotions with sceneryAbstract: The paper mainly discusses little metrical verse,one of the poetic forms to which little attention is paid.It came into being during the Six Dynasties but died out later.The earliest little metrical verses that are still preserved were created in the beginning of the Tang Dynasty and blossomed in the middle of the Tang Dynasty when it mainly referred to jueju(four-line ancient Chinese poem) and was formed by either reducing the number of the lines of metrical verses or making ancient poems metrical verses.From the Song to the Ming Dynasty,little metrical verse referred to the four-rhyme metrical verse and it was Hu Zhenheng who finally wrote the three-rhyme metrical verse.Quite a few poets once created the three-rhyme metrical verse,but only in the Ming and Qing Dynasty(the climax lied in the reign of Emperor Kangxi) did there appear poets who wrote such poems in a conscious way and named them little metrical verse.This poetic form displays colorful contents,most of which chant objects or people,and is characterized by the methods of combining the abstract and the concrete and of integrating emotions with scenery.
