Abstract
Objective To observe the effect of 0.6% fluoride foam on preventing dental caries in primary teeth of preschool children. Methods A total of 396 preschool children from 3 kindergartens were randomly assigned into the experimental group and the placebo control group in a double-blind,cluster randomised,placebo-controlled trial. The experimental group received a biannual 0.6% professional application,and the placebo control group received the placebo for 2 years. Results After two rears,the mean caries increment in the experimental group was 1.81 ± 0.77 dmfs while it was 2.41 ± 0.82 dmfs in the placebo control group. The results showed significant difference between the two group(P 0.05). There was significant difference in the mean caries increment on occlusal surfaces between the two group(P 0.05). Conclusion 0.6% fluoride foam was effective in preventing the increment of dental caries in primary teeth of preschool children.
