Effects of ziprasidone and risperidone on serum prolactin,body weight,blood sugar and blood lipid of schizophrenic patients.

Objective To study the influence of ziprasidone and risperidone on serum prolactin,body weight,blood sugar and blood lipid of schizophrenic patients.Methods A total of 100 patients with schizophrenia were randomly divided into study group with ziprasidone and control group with risperidone for treatment of 8 weeks.They were determined respectively for serum prolactin,body weight,blood sugar and blood lipid in baseline,the 4th weekend and 8th weekend.Results In the 4th weekend and 8th weekend after treatment,there were no differences for serum prolactin,body weight,blood sugar and blood lipid in study group compared with the baseline.But in the 4th weekend and 8th weekend after treatment,the serum prolacetin and body weight in control group were both significantly higher than those in baseline(P0.05).There had significant differences for serum prolactin between two groups in the 4th weekend and 8th weekend(P0.05).Conclusion Ziprasidone has no effects on serum prolactin,body weight of patients with schizophrenia,but risperidone has significant effects on serum prolactin and body weight.Two drugs have no effects on blood sugar and blood lipid.
