Abstract

Objective To investigate the cause and tendency of fever of unknown origin(FUO).Methods A retrospective study was designed to analyze 254 cases of FUO which were in hospital of the Affiliated Hosp.Of Ningxia Med.Coll.from 1994 to 2005,which were corresponding to the standard of FUO and elder than 14 years old. Results 223 of 254 cases were made the diagnosis at last. The most common causes of FUO were infectious disease(48.4%),with tuberculosis accounting for 18.7%(23/123) of cases of infection.21 patients(8.3%) were suffered from malignancy.40 patients(15.7%) were diagnosed as connective tissue diseases.Miscellaneous causes were found in 15.4% of the FUO cases. However, indefinited diagnosis had been made in the remaining 31(12.2%) cases until they discharged from the hospital. The mobility of tuberculosis, malignancy and non-diagnosis of 1994-1999 was higher than 2000-2005,however typhoid fever became lower. Conclusion Infectious disease is the most common causes of FUO while the second were connective tissue diseases and malignancy.
