HBV infection and control measures among freshmen of some college in Xuzhou City

Objective To find out the state of hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection among college students,and provide the evidence for formulating measures of hepatitis prevention and healthcare under the circumstance of cancelling the test of hepatitis B in the physical examination of freshmen. Methods The results of HBV serological tests were analyzed in freshmen from 2007 to 2009.Results A total of 11 871 freshmen were examined,and there were 405 HBsAg positive cases.The positive rate was 3.41%,and the rate among males was 4.70% and that among females was 2.64%.The HBsAg positive rate among the students from rural areas was 4.35%,and the rate among those from urban areas was 2.41%.The positive rate among males was significantly higher than that among females,which also applied to the countryside and city.There was also a regional difference,the HBsAg positive rate in the South being higher than that in the North.The HBV infection pattern was mainly of HbsAg+/eAg+/cAb+ and HbsAg+/eAb+/cAb+,and the proportions respectively being 42.47% and 36.54%.Conclusions There is a potential risk of HBV infection among freshmen in this college.So the omprehensive prevention and control measures should be taken to reduce and control the spread of HBV.
