Abstract
The single factor experiment of oxidation of potassium permanganate in the anhydrous system was studied by the reaction that the benzaldehyde was oxidized to give benzoic acid. The effect of the amount of solvent, the amount of potassium permanganate, acidification time on the yield of benzoic acid was studied. The optimal reaction conditions obtained was the mole ratio of aldehydes benzophenone to potassium permanganate of 1∶1. 5 with the reaction time of 3 h at 57 ℃ and the acidification time of 1. 5 h using acetone as the solvent. The yield of acid was about 92. 5% with over98% purity.
