Abstract

Objective To investigate the neutralization effect of resveratrol on oxidative damage induced by D-galactose in aged mice. Methods The senile model mice, were established by subcutaneous injection of 5% D-galactose at the nape, and adminstrated with resveratrol(15, 30 mg/kg) by oral gavage for 30 d.The lipofuscin(LF) and nitric oxide(NO) contents in brain, malondialdehyde(MDA) level, superoxide dismutase(SOD) and GSH-Px activities in serum and brain were detected by biochemistry method. Results In serum and brain of senile mice, the contents of NO and MDA increased, the activities of SOD and GSH-Px decrease. In addition, the LF in brain also elevated.Resveratrol administration of 15,30 mg/kg showed different degrees of antagonistic effect on the increase of MDA and NO levels, elevated the SOD and GSH-Px activities in serum and brain, decrease LF level in brain. Conclusion Resveratrol may postpone senility by eliminating oxygen free radicals and antilipoperoxidation.
