Abstract

Objective To study the changes in oxidative level and anti oxidative ability in D galactose induced senile rats.Method The rats were given subcutaneous injection of D galactose 60 mg/kg daily for 42 days to induce senescence and the contents of plasma malon dialdehyde (MDA),nitric oxide(NO)and the activities of plasma superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione peroxidase(GSH Px),nitric oxide synthase(NOS)and brain monoamine oxidase(MAO) were assayed in senile rats. Results Compared with normal rats, the content of plasma MDA was increased in male and female D galactose induced senile rats.On the contrary, the activities of both plasma SOD and GSH Px were decreased, however, the activity of brain MAO was enhanced and the plasma NO content and NOS activity remained unchanged. Conclusion It is indicated that the oxidative level was increased and the anti oxidative ability was decreased in D galactose induced senile rats, moreover,no sex difference exists in the above changes.
