Abstract

Objective:To explore effect of Xingnaojing on interleukin-6(IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) levels in patients with severe traumatic brain injury. Methods:Totally 60 patients with severe traumatic brain injury were enrolled in this study. All 30 patients in control group were given routine treatment, while 30 patients in trial group were treated with routine treatment plus Xingnaojing injection. 1,3,5 and 7 days after the injury, blood was collected. The serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels were analyzed by ELISA. Results: The serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels of the two groups increased 1 day after the injury, and there was no significant difference between the two groups(P 0. 05). But the serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels decreased markedly 3 days after the injury, and the values of TNF-α and IL-6 in trial group were significantly lower than those in control group(P 0. 05). Conclusions: After the treatment with Xingnaojing, the TNF-α and IL-6 levels in the peripheral blood decrease.
