Abstract

Effects of girdling at different times on enzymatic activity of tobacco plant and nicotine and potassium content in the leaves of flue-cured tobacco were studied in pot test. The results showed that compared to the cultivation with no girdling, the application of girdling could reduce the activity of nitrate reductase (NR) of tobacco plant and increase the activity of invertase in the leaves of flue-cured tobacco. It could significantly reduce the nicotine content and increase potassium content when conducting girdling at the topping day or 10 days before topping.
