Abstract

AZ31 magnesium alloy was hot extruded under different conditions, and the microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy before and after hot extrusion were investigated. The results show that dynamic recrystallization occurs during hot extrusion, therefore, compared to the as-cast alloy, microstructures of the extruded AZ31 alloy are refined, and the mechanical properties are enhanced remarkably.Microstructure and mechanical properties of extruded AZ31 alloy are influenced by extrusion temperature and cooling method. In this experiment, the AZ31 magnesium alloy extruded at 623 K then air cooled can gain refined grains and good mechanical properties.
