Investigation of Formaldehyde Pollution in Some Newly Decorated Houses in Yinchuan,Ningxia

Abstract

Objective To understand the dynamic changes on indoor formaldehyde concentration of newly decorated houses.Methods A total of 83 newly decorated houses with similar decoration level and similar decoration specifications were selected,and the concentration of indoor formaldehyde was monitored 0-1 months,3 months,6 months,12 months after the decoration finished.Results The unqualified rates of formaldehyde concentration for four periods of decoration finished were 95%,73%,41% and 28%;The concentration of formaldehyde was affected by ventilation.the concentration of indoor formaldehyde of long ventilation was significantly lower than that of short ventilation(P0.05).The formaldehyde concentration of long time ventilation was significantly lower(P0.05).12 months after decoration finished,the mean concentration for more than 4 hours ventilation was(0.11±0.07) mg/m3,and that of less than 4 hours ventilation was(0.16±0.09) mg/m3,and as for the bedrooms,they were 37%,24%,it was 21% for kitchen,and 17% for living room.Conclusion Formaldehyde pollution is more serious in newly decorated houses in Yinchuan,Ningxia,the ventilation is indispensable to reduce indoor formaldehyde concentration after the decoration finished.
