Comparative study of patella catching and improved tension band steel wire on patella comminuted fracture

Abstract
Objective It is to discuss the merit and demerit of patella catching and improved tension band steel wire on patella comminuted fracture.Methods From Aug 2000 to Aug 2004,48 cases were treated with two kinds of methods respectively.22 cases were in patella catching group and followed up for mean 1.5 a,and 26 cases were in improved tension band steel wire group and followed up for mean 2 a.The operation time,knee functional recover time and clinical effect at follow-up were compared.Results Patella catching group had less operation time,less knee functional recover time and better clinical effect at follow-up than improved tension band steel wire group(P0.05). Conclusion Patella catching is better than improved tension band steel wire in treating the patellar comminuted fracture and it is a superordinary internal fixation method.
