Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of acupoint 808 nm laser radiation in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (kidney-yang deficiency type). Methods Sixty patients were randomly allocated to two groups, 30 cases each. The treatment group received 808 nm laser radiation on points Huiyin (CV 1), Guanyuan (CV 4) and Shenshu (BL 23) and the control group took Western medicine finasteride tablets. The clinical therapeutic effects and post-treatment changes in the International Prostate Symptom Score (I-PSS), Quality of Life Index (L) and prostate volume were assessed. Results The total efficacy rate was 93.3% in the treatment group and 66.7% in the control group; there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P0.05). The I-PSS score, L and prostate volume improved in both groups after treatment (P0.05). There were statistically significant post-treatment differences in the I-PSS score and L between the two groups (P0.05). There were no abnormal liver function, renal function and electrocardiogram in both groups before and after treatment. Conclusion Acupoint 808 nm laser radiation is one of the effective ways to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (kidney-yang deficiency type).
