Abstract
Objective:To study the influence of Losartan on insulin resistance(IR) in patients with primary hypertension. Methods: Oral glucose tolerant test (OGTT) was done in 30 normal individuals (normal control) and 35 cases of primary hypertension. The levels of blood glucose, insulin (INS) and C peptide (CP) were determined. 8 weeks after the treatment with Losartan in the hypertension group, the above indices were determined again. Results The levels of blood glucose and insulin before and after meals were significantly higher, while the insulin sensitivity (ISI) was lower in the hypertension group than those in the control group ( P 0.05). 8 weeks after the treatment, the area under curve of insulin (I) and C peptide (CP) remarkably decreased ( P 0.05),while ISI significantly increased ( P 0.05). CP/INS Showed no significant difference before and after the treatment ( P 0.05). Conclusion: Insulin resistance exists in patients with hypertension, which can be improved by Losartan treatment.
