Abstract

Objective To discuss the effects of valsartan on insulin resistance in essential hypertension(ISR).Methods 64 patients with essential hypertension were accepted valstartan 80mg,qd for 10 weeks at every morning.Serum concentration of fasting insulin and gluscose were measured.Insulin-sensitivity index(ISI) was calculated to evaluate the change of ISR after treatment. Results After treatments with valsartan for 10 weeks, the blood pressure decreased, both in SBP and DBP.SBP decreased from(151±14.9)mmHg to(124±10.2)mmHg;DBP decreased from(94.2±13.8)mmHg to(79.2±6.5)mmHg(P0.05);Serum concentration of fasting insulin decreased and insulin-sensitivity index(ISI) significantly increased after treatments.Serum concentration of fasting insulin decreased from(15.74±3.14)mu/L to(10.3±0.64)mu/L,ISI increased from(-4.26±0.50) to(-3.82±0.35)(P0.05).Conclusion Vlsartan can decrease or improve insulin resistance in essential hypertension(ISR).
