Expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 in thyroid tumors tissue

Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) in thyroid tumors tissues.Methods Immunohistochemistry was applied to examine the expression of MMP-9 in 20 cases of adjacent tumor tissue,20 cases of thyroid adenomas and 53 cases of thyroid carcinomas.All the specimens were paraffin-embedded.Results The expression of MMP-9 was not detected in adjacent tumor tissue.The expression of MMP-9 was significantly different between thyroid carcinomas and thyroid adenomas(96.41% vs 55.0%,P0.01).Conclusion MMP-9 is over-expression in thyroid tumors and it will be useful for the diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma.
