Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture at crossed points as main treatment for ulcerative colitis and its effect on immunity.Method Sixty-three patients with ulcerative colitis were randomly allocated to a treatment group of 33 cases and a control group of 30 cases.The treatment group received acupuncture and moxibustion and the control group took sulfasalazine plus metronidazole.The clinical therapeutic effects were evaluated and pre-/post-treatment IgG,IgM and IgA levels determined in the two groups of patients.Result The total efficacy rate was 90.0% in the treatment group and 73.3% in the control group;there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).There was a statistically significant pre-/post-treatment difference in IgG in both groups(P0.01).There was a statistically significant post-treatment difference in IgG between the treatment and control groups(P0.01).Conclusion Acupuncture at crossed points is an effective way to treat ulcerative colitis.
