Death cause and burden among residents in Wenzhou city in 2010

Objective To analyze the mortality level,death cause and death burden of Wenzhou inhabitants in 2010,and to provide the basis for the prevention and control of diseases.Methods The data presented in this report were obtained from the death surveillance system of Wenzhou city in 2010,including eleven counties throughout Wenzhou.The causes of death were analyzed according to ICD-10,and the rate of birth and death,the proportion of death causes and years of potential life lost(YPLL) were calculated.The adjusted death rate was calculated with the data of population census from China in 2000.Results The crude mortality rate was 559.11/ lakh(male,female was 636.92/lakh,474.79/ lakh,respectively).Malignant neoplasm,brain vascular diseases,heart diseases,respiratory diseases,injuries and poisonings were the main causes of death,accounting for 83.06% of all deaths.Compared with the sequence of causes of death,cancer,injuries and poisonings,brain vascular diseases,heart disease,congenital anomaly ranked the first five constitution of the PYLL,and the PYLL rates were 12.51‰、7.20‰、2.59‰、2.12‰,and 1.22‰,respectively.Conclusion Chronic diseases and injures were the main death causes of the population of Wenzhou in 2010.Therefore,it is important that prevention and control of the chronic diseases and injury be enhanced.
