Abstract
Objective To analyze the outcome of the TB control project supported by the World Bank loan in Heyuan city. Method Data of the tuberculosis control project supported by the World Bank loan in Heyuan city from 1992 to 2001 was collected and analyzed. Results There were 33 925 suspect cases were examined with 9 655 cases of active tuberculosis. In the cases, 7 697 were smear positive for pulmonary tuberculosis, with 6 274 new cases of smear positive, and 1 423 retreatment cases with smear positive. The registration rate of new smear positive cases was 5 25/100 000 in 1993, and increased to 29 9/100 000 in 2001. The curative rate of initial treatment cases raised from 87 4%to 94 3%from 1993 to 2001, and the curative rate of retreatment smear positive cases raised from 62 8%to 88 1%from 1993 to 2001.Conclusions In the past decade, the TB control project in Heyuan city has achieved the target of “high rate of discovery”and “high rate of successful treatment”.It is because that free examination was provided the case management was converged and the strategy of DOTS was implemented. It provides a good experience for the implementation of new projects in Guangdong province and enhances the sustainability of TB control project in Heyuan city.
