Abstract
Objective To study the correlation between body mass index and fatty liver. Methods With the standard methods for the diagnosis of fatty liver and examination of body mass index (BMI),1 226 subjects were surveyed in health examination in 2006 in the clinic and studied on the relationship between BMI and fatty liver. Results Among the 1 226 subjects,312 cases (25.4%) were found suffering from fatty liver. In the cases with normal weight, overweight and obesity, the detectable rates of fatty liver were 4.4%,35.6% and 81.9%,respectively,being significant difference (P0.01). There was a high linear correlation between the distribution of BMI and corresponding detectable rates (r=0.987,P0.01). Conclusions Controlling the weight increase is a cardinal measure to prevent the fatty liver.
