Abstract
Lightning fault of 500 kV transmission line is the main cause of the line trip out, especially for transmission lines located in complex terrain. The ATP-EMTP and electric geometry method are used to analyze the shielding failure lightning withstand level of the typical 500 kV lines which are influenced by terrain factors, the working principle of line arrester in lightning protection is explained.Lightning disturbance governance of the first 500 kV Puhong line is introduced.Studies show that more attention should be paid the influence of topography on lightning protection of transmission line;the line arrester is one of the effective means for lightning disturbance treatment of 500 kV transmission line in complex terrain.
