Abstract
Lightning arrester is the common lightning protection for 500kV transmission line. It is necessary to analyze the energy absorption of lightning arrester to achieve reasonable protection effect. The model of 500kV transmission line is built by EMTP software. Considering the impact characteristics of tower grounding device, the residual voltage and current of arrester when lightning strike back and shielding failure occur are compared, and the change of energy absorbed by arrester is discussed. The results show that the residual voltage and current waveform oscillation of arrester is more severe than that of shielding failure, and the absorbed energy is far greater than that of shielding failure.
