Abstract

To undertake politics or live reclusively is a dilemma that scholars in ancient China would inevitably encounter. In the eyes of a Confucian, there were conventionally two roads the scholars could take: to undertake politics,or live reclusively.Much due to the social instability and the prevailing metaphysics, scholars in the Wei and the Jin dynasties wandered between the above two alternatives. However, many of them resorted to an distinctive inbetween solution known as Chaoyin.
