Metaphysics and the general mood of scholars in the Wei and Jin dynasties

砊he Wei and Jin dynasties witnessed great chaos and social changes in China′s feudal society on the upbeat.During this period,the class contradiction became intensified because of political disorder and successive wars.Manor economy controlled by nobles made its great headway and ideologically the absolute authority of confucianism was broken down and metaphysics (Xuan Xue) came into being.which merged Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism into one organic whole.This sect advocated governing by doing nothing that goes against nature,which washed away the filth and mire of Confucian classics,bringing about a complete change in the general mood of scholars,who were filled with enthusiasm for life,set their passion afleme ,and lived a life with Open-mindedness and lofty ideal. 〔
