Abstract

Objective:To investigate the expression of eptithelial cadherin(E-cad)in gastric carcinoma, and to study its effect in invasion and metastasis of gastric carcinoma. Methods:The immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of E-cad in 36 patients with gastric carcinoma. Results:The positive expression rate of E-cad(72.2%)in gastric carcinoma was lower than that in paracarcinoma mucosa(91.7%)(P0.05).There was a significant correlation between the positive expression and differentiation degree of E-cad(P0.05).Conclusion:The abnormal expression of E-cad plays an important role in the development of gastric carcinoma, and is involved in invasion and metastasis of gastric carcinoma.E-cad may be the useful marker to predict the clinical prognosis of patients with gastric carcinoma.
