Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of root canal foramen diameter on the accuracy of ProPex electronic apex locator.Methods 80 teeth extracted premolars were randomly divided into four groups and the root canal foramen diameters were prepared to 0.15mm,0.20mm,0.25mm,0.30mm,respectively,by stainless steel K file.The tooth was embedded in an alginate model and electronic length was determined with ProPex electronic apex locator using a No.15 stainless steel K file.The distance between measured length and actual length,IF value,were recorded and analyzed.Results The accuracy of ProPex were 95%,90%,70%,65%,respectively,when the root canal foramen diameters were 0.15mm,0.20mm,0.25mm,0.30mm.Significant differences were found between the IF values between the four groups(P0.0001).Conclusion The accuracy of ProPex is influenced by the diameter of root canal foramen.
