Abstract

Objective: To observe the therapeutic effect of metoprolol in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). Methods:Sixty patients with CHF were selected randomly. The patients were divided into metoprolol group (34 cases, 6.25 -25 mg, bid or tid) and control group (26 cases). The efficacy of metoprolol on patient's symptoms and heart function were observed 6 months after treatment. Results: Left ventricular ejection was increased (50% ±2% vs 43%±1%,P 0.01 ) and left ventricular systolic volume was decreased ( 133.0 ±58 vs 141.2 ±55,P 0.01 ) in metoprolol group than those in the control group.Left ventricular end-diastolic volume decreased in metoprolol group compared with that of at baseline(P 0.05 ). Conclusion: On the basis of routine therapy, metoprolol can improve the symptoms and heart function significantly in patients with CHF.
