Abstract
Objective To investigate the therapeutic outcome of Metoprolol on congestive heart failure(CHF). Methods Sixty two patients with CHF were divided randomly into Control group(30 patients) and Metoprolol group (32 patients). A regular treatment was given to all patients. For Metoprolol group, Metoprolol was added for 60 days and the efficacy was compared with that of the Control group. Results In Metoprolol group, the improvement of heart function was better than that of the Control group ( u c=2.05,P 0.05). Echocardiography showed remarkable improvement in the parameters of heart function, heart rate and blood pressure compared with those of before therapy ( t=2.28-8.96, P 0.05,0.01), and the changes were more obvious than that of the Control group ( t= 2.17- 25.75, P 0.01). Slight side effects were noted in 5 patients. Conclusion The efficacy of Metoprolol for patients with CHF is definite . The blood pressure, heart rate and electrocardiographic changes should be monitored for the side effects.
